The Sheehe Group is the consulting practice formed in 2009 by Richard Sheehe after more than two decades spent in award winning journalism, communciations training and writing roles. Richard is also a Senior Research Fellow at George Mason University and Director of the GMU-affiliated StratComm360.org project for applied best practices in strategic communications. Writing 
Richard writes executive bylines, blogs, white papers, speeches, press releases and newsletter content on a range of topics including tech and tech policy, big data, retail and marketing, government, healthcare, issues advocacy and more.

A solid writer specializing in thought leadership, Richard has ghostwritten work accepted for non-paid placement in
Wired, Forbes, Fast Company, Re/code, NY TimesWall Street Journal, Huffington Post, CRM and other publications. He authored countless press releases and articles as AVP at a major university and strategic communications executive at a large association.

Richard also wrote as a national news anchor and field correspondent for the NBC Radio Network and as a contributing writer for The New York Times, Associated Press, NPR, BBC and other organizations. 

Trainings and Workshops
Richard is a seasoned communications presenter and training instructor for corporate, non-profit and government clients. A domain expert with current affiliations at George Mason University and CDC, Richard is also a former instructor at EEI Business Communications and adjunct professor at George Washington University. His training and workshop topics include:

  • Interview Skills- Richard travels nationally to deliver big picture guidance on message development and granular advice on effective and graceful handling of live interviews and other real time interactions like community meetings, town halls, Q&A's or any setting where the questions may be unexpected and message discipline is a must. Sessions include slide instruction, exercises and role-playing scenarios with critiques. 
  • Crisis Communications - As an established leader in crisis training and a veteran frontline practitioner in crises like 911, the Anthrax attacks and the hospitalization of a U.S. Vice President, Richard leverages psychology and neuroscience to convey the unique hurdles of communicating to stressed populations, and offers strategies to overcome such challenges. 
  • Message Development - These workshops help clients leverage Richard's strategic communications expertise with SWOT-style exercises for market/industry positioning and brainstorming of key differentiators and messages. Projects can include post-session deliverables like foundational mission statements and talking point packages.

  • Writing - Richard offers a dynamic training course on clear, compelling, accurate, polite and persuasive writing for use in  emails, reports, internal and external correspondence, slide decks and other written communications. Richard has particular expertise in science/technology writing for lay audiences.
